The Division of the State Fire Marshal keeps Ohioans safe when they are at home, and out and about. This includes modernizing and enforcing the Ohio Fire Code; training and certifying firefighters; teaching fire prevention and safety education tobusinesses, industry, schools and the public; investigating the origin and cause of firesand explosions; and regulating and licensing fireworks companies, underground storage tanks andother fire-related industries. This is an intermittent position with the Ohio Department of Commerce, Division of State Fire Marshal
Instructs & evaluates students in the Academy s Fire Training Officer programs, Leadership classes and/or State of Ohio Certified Instructor classes (e.g., operates audio-visual equipment; ensures student safety in classroom and on training grounds; counsels students; conducts skill testing (i.e., IFSAC accreditation)).
Reviews, analyzes & evaluates Fire Training Officer programs, methods, materials & equipment to ensure compliance with current NFPA standards (e.g., makes recommendations to improve lesson plans; assists in setting up resident programs; provide input for new course development & updates for current courses).
Performs related duties as assigned (e.g., consults with fire service persons & others relative to training programs, equipment & fire department operations).

Qualifications Certified as Public Safety Instructor in firefighting by Department of Public Safety pursuant to Section 4765.55 of Revised Code; valid driver's license.
Knowledge of Ohio Fire Academy policies, procedures & teaching methods*; fire science; firefighting safety practices; advanced firefighting curriculum & specialized fire training programs.
Skill in operation of audio/visual equipment; operation of firefighting equipment.
Ability to interpret extensive variety of technical material in books, journals & manuals; use algebra; prepare & deliver lectures before specialized audiences; gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things; handle sensitive inquiries from & contacts with students, officials & general public; demonstrate physical fitness.
